Advanced solution for battery protection and power plant power supply

In a recent installation in remote Western Australia, EDL chose our Din-rail DC-UPS All in One CBI2420A to preserve the life of batteries used to start power plant generators and to supply power to control equipment.

The DC-UPS CBI2420A incorporates a high-quality switching power supply with an extremely advanced UPS module. There are many features of our CBI2420A that made it advantageous to install for this specific application.

The generator is located in a remote part of Australia, which is subject to high temperatures. The CBI2420A has an operating temperature range of -25 to +70°C, and the unit installed by EDL operated comfortably at 36°C. High temperatures can affect the acceptance of charge by the battery.

Automatic compensation of CBI2420A with RJTEMP451 probe.

Using the CBI2420A with the RJTEMP451temperature probe allows automatic compensation of battery charge. This helps to prolong battery life. It should be noted that when using ADELSystem modules at the upper limit of the temperature range, the derating formula published in the product data sheet should be observed. This is common to all switching power supplies.EDL is using CBI2420A connected to the DPY351 controller..

Remote monitoring and automatic testing: ADELSystem's advanced charge and control system for EDL

EDL uses theEthernet gateway of the DPY351 controller to transfer data to its HMI page. The CBI2420A has been configured to perform an impedance test every three hours, storing the data in a history file accessible from the HMI.
The DPY351 also provides an alarm signal output to the PLC when the main power source fails and the back-up battery is activated.
The ADELSystem devices, CBI2420A and DPY351, provide EDL with a highly advanced battery charging and monitoring system that can be monitored and controlled remotely. This reduces the overall operating costs of the power systems provided to its customers, as it decreases the need for site visits to conduct regular battery testing.
